Over the last twenty years there has been a dramatic increase in the use of non-linear loads, particularly in variable speed drives for motors, high frequency lighting systems and IT equipment. This has led to harmonic pollution of power supplies, which can lead to:

 

Overheating of conductors, especially neutrals.

Damage to electric motors.

Overheating in transformers.

Damage to cable insulation, caused by voltage peaks in the harmonics being well above that of the fundamental frequency.

Damage to power factor correction capacitor banks.

Voltage imbalances in three-phase circuits supplying motors can cause ‘triplen’ harmonics.

Poor power factor can be an expensive problem if you are paying reactive power charges, we can identify ways to help with this problem.
